Clockwork (2022)

Serif text typeface using RoboFont.

Clockwork draws inspiration from Nadsat, the slang used by teenage gang members in Anthony Burgess’ novel, A Clockwork Orange. The peculiarities of Clockwork, such as its short ascenders and square serifs, capture the patchwork nature of this odd language.

As part of a type design course, we were tasked with presenting our typefaces in a print type specimen book. I designed the cover, which was later embossed on black paper. The inside of the book was used to display our typefaces, featuring passages from the novel and playful typography compositions.
